Rapier: feinting with a thrust
A very simple attack with feint, applicable to Sabre as much as Rapier.
Note: This attack depends on an off hand weapon to protect whilst performing this feint as in doing so we would otherwise leave our head to counter strike. The off hand weapon allows appropriate defense of this counter attack and removes the risk.
Lead with a thrust on either inside or outside line. The for work for this exercise is a single lunge and withdraw.
If the Defender parries the attack off to one side, raise the hilt to hanging and strike with the lead edge the other side (cuts one or two). This depends crucially on them parrying with intent. The strike is delivered quickly, before they can recover.
An alternative is to feint the obvious cut (one or two) and actually strike cuts five or six. This is harder to defend because it looks very much like cuts one or two to the defender.
Martial note: When making the middle cut, the attacker should withdraw smartly in the same move, as a cut to the flank is unlikely to end the fight.
